![As part of her leadership practicum in the Ignatian Spiritual Formation Program (ISFP), Margery, a licensed psychologist, reviewed Jean Heaton’s book, which "utilizes Ignatian traditions and Al-Anon to help individuals accompany family members struggling with chemical dependency."
She approached the review through three perspectives: her work as a psychologist, her study of Ignatian spirituality, and her experience training lay ministers to support one another during mental health challenges.
Reflecting on Heaton’s Side-By-Side workbook, Margery found that it offers “a way to learn how to love in a way that is more skillful, less taxing, and more free."
Beyond the book review, Margery hopes to carry what she has learned into her ministry and daily life: "I hope to continue to use what I have learned in this course to advance the mission of Christ. First, I will focus on continuing my study of Ignatian Spirituality [...] I think that this work will increase my ability to be present and bring Christ's love and hope to others in the midst of their suffering."
